Brilliant LeaderThe Definition Of Leadership
One thing I am asked quite frequently is, “What is the definition of leadership?” and of course, I can never remember the exact quote from my book – yes I know it’s a sign of getting older 
- so I normally faff around with some general distinctions around the difference between managing and leading. So I thought I’d start the new year off with offering a new defintion of leadership:
Leadership is about creating an environment in which people can and do perform to the best of their ability. This is accomplished through high engagement while enabling people to play to their strengths and fulfill their potential. – Simon Cooper 2012

There are a lot of definitions abut leadership and this definition from you sounds great. A good leader is a good follower before for me that’s the true essence of leadership.
It’s true that leaders are born and not made, but the inborn ability has to be groomed inorder to up with refined quality leadership skills.

I think that the best way to describe a leader is someone who can be strong yet gentle, leading yet listening.
I think of leadership strictly from a personal level. Leadership is the ability to lead yourself before all others. In all you want to do and all you want done, you look to no one else and expect nothing of anyone else.

That’s pretty true & great way of defining leadership. I think to be a great leader, a person needs to be able to lead himself. One who can lead in keeping his own emotional blocks aside, establish clear direction of his goals, motivate self to initiate & continue efforts in line with those goals can eventually lead others also effectively.

A leader is a motivator who has the ability to drive his team towards the goal. That is a well put definition. The abilities of a leader can be enhanced by proper training.
